Ari's legend assignment

How Humans Were Made

Before the start of the Earth, the universe was very peaceful and nothing was happening.  One day, two planets collided causing the creation of Earth.  At first, earth was almost empty because nothing was able to live there.  After about a thousand years, the planet started creating oxygen and algae started to grow.  This algae eventually was food for other animals and life forms.  Then about ten million years later there were humans on Earth. They say that humans were derived from apes; they have many other theories as well.  None of this is true; scientists cannot figure out how we were made.  In the human genetic code, there are the same genetics as in apes.  But there is another part to our genetic structure that not even scientists can figure out.  This is because aliens created humans.  Don’t you realize that since our first moon landing we haven’t ever gone back!? We only send un- manned vehicles.  This is because when Neil Armstrong went to the moon he saw aliens, he said that the aliens looked like dogs that are eight feet long and have 12 legs.  In Neil Armstrong’s will it even says its true.  In the radio communications sent to mars when we were there, you can hear Neil Armstrong saying he see’s “bogies, they look like weird dogs”, and Nassau said not to worry and they know they are on the moon.  Lately a lot of aliens have been seen flying around in the sky.  A lot of people have wrong information, making it hard to know what is true or not. We don’t hear anything about aliens because our own government lies to us.  They have known for a while where we came from but they don’t want anyone to know. The reason that they can’t find another animal on Earth with the same genetics as humans is because aliens made us with their own technology.  Will aliens attack us? Will they make the apocalypse that is suppose to be coming? No one knows, we can only hope for the best.  But the way we are polluting everything, there will not be an Earth left for much longer

Adam's vocabulary words paragraph

Upon seeing a Dog walking around the street, I had decided to draw something about it. Unfortunately, everything I decide to draw usually winds up as scribbles, so I abandoned the idea. However, after hearing a veracious response from someone that enjoyed it, I felt a sense of felicity. That fact had cleared the doubts in my head, replacing the dark rain with a sort of tranquility, making drawing, albeit not very good, having an impact on other people. That Is what I assume to be so fruitful among artists, being able to have their work enjoyed. Unfortunately, I’m still not a huge fan of drawing, despite relentless questions I get for people to draw something with them, I’m absolutely sure that it isn’t for me. Which, for some reason, turns their world upside down, don’t ask if I know why. I would guess it would seem obvious considering my normal lack of energy toward art in general but whatever. At least appreciation is earned from whatever work I did, despite the fact that I’m not a huge fan of it myself.

Avichai's Sugar Girl Essay

When the Europeans came to North America they were not the first settlers. The Europeans took advantage of the First Nations people. “They traded these pelts at the Hudson’s Bay Company… the white man’s, goods … the Indians, found made life a little easier in that cold place.” They were able to obtain furs and other goods for a low price. The Native’s pay was very minimal, and the government was able to seize control of the country. Later on the Natives got so used to the assistance of guns for hunting and the ability to buy tasty, unhealthy foods that they were completely incapable of being self- sufficient and had to rely on Europeans to be able to have a simple meal.
Once the Government was able to control the natives they took their children and forced their culture on them: “Then they told them that they were no longer allowed to speak Cree. If they did their mouths would be washed out with soap and they would be struck with a switch.” But, they were rewarded when they did praiseworthy things in the form of a sugary and sweet candy. “When the children were very good, they were given a hard candy, sweet and brightly coloured, that they sucked on until the candy became a silver then disappeared.” Later on in the Sugar Girl’s life the sugar turned into an addiction and became her downfall.
Once the Sugar Girl was finally free from the residential schools and the nuns she was unable to obtain basic necessities such as food and clothing. Luckily she was given a little money from the government. Once she was old enough she had her first taste of alcohol and she later became addicted to it just like she was with sugar. “There were mornings when the Sugar Girl would wake up sick, wanting alcohol.” She would keep on sleeping with men and eventually got impregnated and had a son she never was able to find a person that she actually loved and cared for to have a child with.

Once the Sugar Girl had a child she tried to get her life back together and be free from her abuse and problems. “For a short time when she was pregnant and when she was breastfeeding her baby, the Sugar Girl felt as healthy and happy as she had as a child” Unfortunately, the memories of the nuns abusing her became the only way she knew how to raise her child. “Sometimes it was easier to do what the nuns had done to her, and spank her boy when he was naughty, and quiet him with candy, and feed him the same things she ate.” She tried her best to remember the proper way to raise her child, in the way that she was raised by her parents, but she could barely remember her upbringing.

The Sugar Girl’s addiction to alcohol and sugar was too strong and she fell back into her old ways. “She saw it in the grocery store, at the restaurant, in her home.” She constantly thought that her addictions comforted her but it was  exactly the opposite; it was slowly killing her from the inside out. She started to get sicker and sicker but her son wasn’t able to help her because he was taken to the same school and forced into the same abuse she had to live with. “The son suffered the fate of a residential school child, and in painful ways, at the hands of certain sick men, that his mother had fortunately never faced.”

The alcohol and sugar finally got to the Sugar Girl and she passed away. When a child suffers from abuse they turn to anything that is able to comfort them and they disregard the fact that it might be unhealthy. This will eventually turn to addiction and the child’s life will be changed irrecoverably.

Danielle's vocabulary words paragraph

I have a dog-named Felicity; the reason we named her Felicity is because she’s always happy which is the meaning of her name. Felicity is lackadaisical. She’s always just lying around never wanting to go out for her walks unlike most dogs. Sometimes Felicity and I paint pictures together, but Felicities paintings are always just a scribble. Our absolute favorite food is alphabet soba noodles; they’re so fun to play with.  Sometimes we’ll even turn all the letters upside down. It’s pretty obvious when they’re not facing the right way, then we’re not able to spell words out with them. Yesterday it was raining; we decided to do some charity work. The impact it has on us really causes tranquility

Adira's song lyrics assignment

The songs Lullaby and Mockingbird both explain that when a person is going through a hard time, there is always going to be someone there. The message is that whether it’s a parent or God, whether everyone is aware of it or not, someone is always present.
In Lullaby, he sings that everyone has been in a difficult position. He knows how that feels. The message is they know the difficulty, hence the beginning of the song, "I know the feeling of finding yourself stuck out on a ledge." This song is a lullaby, for everyone who needs it and for all of us who know someone who needs it.   The term 'lullaby" simply refers to a soothing song. But it is more from the standpoint of a person  with more life experience, talking to someone who is much younger. This song sounds like a desperate plea from the older/more experienced person to the younger person saying not to give up, that there are better times coming. Life will get better.

In the song Mockingbird, the message is to a loved one. He feels that he doesn’t spend enough time with this person, and he is not always there for them when they need him to be there. He wants to give them the life he never had: “I know you miss your dad when I'm gone…I can see you're sad…I can see it in your eyes, deep inside you want to cry…Daddy's with you in your prayers…no more tears… Daddy's here, no more nightmares. We gonna pull together through it”
He’s saying that he’s always looking out for his family even when he’s not physically there.
In Lullaby it says “Just give it one more try, and turn this up on the radio.  If you can hear me now I'm reaching out to let you know that you're not alone…So just close your eyes.” The song is addressed to someone he is not able to reach but still loves. He would do anything to be able to speak to that person. In Mockingbird the person can be reached, but the speaker doesn’t reach out to them. In both of these songs the speaker wants those he loves to know that even though they can’t be there physically he is always going to be there and looking out for them.

Ari's vocabulary words story

Paragraph Assignment

Once upon a time there was a city in Russia called Chernobyl.  The city was full of happy Russian folk, until one day the nuclear reactor that supported their city overheating and exploded, the impact to the town was nuclear fallout in a large diameter around the city.  When this happened, large majorities of the people were able to escape, but some people and lots of animals, were unable to leave which resulted in mutated people and animals.  This story is about a dog in Chernobyl that was born, and was hideous.  It was badly mutated, but it had great strength and intelligence, it was relentless.  This dog eventually escaped from Chernobyl, without any food or water, because somehow he didn’t need anything to power himself.  This dog went around to all the small towns and was eventually spotted.  The dogs name was Fred; his father was a dog for the military and Fred was an absolutehard ass, however he had a soft side for other people in need and loved giving charity.  Fred got a lot of training from his father to survive against people.   With this training, strength, and intelligence, he was able to overthrow the government.  For some reason after over running the country, it constantly rained every day.  This was because the nuclear fallout radius had gotten larger, causing strange weather, radiated rain, burning acid rain, and more mutations, strangely causing everyone to be lackadaisical. Fred knew that things would not go well with this if he released it to the public, and so since he was already mutated and radiated, he was immune to radiation poisoning. Because of this, he decided to go to Chernobyl to stop the radiation himself.  He went back and found that the whole area was dead now, even his parents.  He went to the nuclear power plant to stop the radiation fall out. He took a giant led bubble and slowly placed it over the plant, over a course of 12 days.  The end of this drained him drained because he hadn’t stopped working the whole 12 days.  He decided it was enough led so he placed a thick, huge rubber bubble over the reactor.  He headed home and everyone in the town was starting to die from strange diseases all the time, and mutations began happening.  So Fred decided to move all of the un-radiated people that are not sick to another, clean area far away.  Letting him quarantine the rest of them and stop the radiation with his large military.  So he moved to Stalingrad, obviously it’s a place where most officials go.  He was the dictator, but he didn’t like to have more money than other people.  So he treated everyone equally.  Eventually this radiation was killed off, but 5 years later it started to spread even more, and faster.  It was a different kind of radiation, and it was definitely not from Chernobyl this time it was a biological weapon from America.  Fred responded furiously considering the U.S and the U.N assured him that they were allies.  So Fred and his massive army, that he kept hidden for many years, came out and attacked the United States and the U.N headquarters.  Fred’s military had such large numbers, and technology that had never been seen before, making other countries very weak defending him.  Eventually Canada, Japan, China and Germany joined the war as allies of Fred, causing the United States to give up power, now Fred owned the two most powerful countries in the world. The veracity is that this made him feel great, he didn’t want to stop, he began messing with his allies and Germany sent a super soldier P.M.C squad to kill Fred. They were very successful, and so Fred died, his family had monophobia, and the world went on, America came back worse and everything in the world was upside down. This was because without Fred, nothing was fruitful

Intro Paragraph For Lamb To The Slaughter

Lamb To The Slaughter is a very strange, horrific story.  Mrs. Maloney, the main character, kills her husband by brutally hitting him with a leg of lamb; “she swung the big frozen leg of lamb high in the air and brought it down as hard as she could on the back of his head.  She might just as well have hit him with a steel club”.  Mrs. Maloney does this because her husband said that he had to leave her, but the story does not say why he had to leave her, it simply skipped the lines; And he told her.  It didn’t take long, four or five minutes at most, and she say very still through it all”. Mrs. Maloney is very un-ethical.  She continued to lie to everyone about it, telling the people of the town that she came home and found her husband dead; and she must cook it good, and make it as tasty as possible because the poor man was tired; and if, when she entered the house, she happened to find anything unusual, or tragic, or terrible, then naturally it would be a shock and she’d become frantic with grief and horror”.  The story is difficult for the reader to understand because it does not tell the reader what people’s motives were.

Danielle's poem analysis assignment

The songs “You’re Beautiful” and “Beautiful Soul” are both songs that would seem similar, but they are actually completely different. “You’re Beautiful” by James Blunt talks about physical beauty while the song “Beautiful Soul” By Jesse McCartney talks about inner beauty including personality and emotions. In “You’re Beautiful” he sings about how he saw a girl on a subway with another man, and how she is so beautiful but he doesn’t even know her. “She smiled at me on the subway.
She was with another man. You're beautiful, it's true”. In “Beautiful Soul” he sings about how he met a girl who he really likes for her personality. He doesn’t care if she’s pretty or not. “I don't want another pretty face I don't want just anyone to hold I don't want my love to go to waste I want you and your beautiful soul I know that you are something special “ Out of the two songs the values that I feel I connect with more would be “Beautiful Soul” by Jesse McCartney, because I feel that beauty fades but personality and emotion will always remain with the person. In a relationship that’s all about looks and superficiality, it will not last as you may not have the same morals or your personalities may clash. It is only through really  deeply getting to know someone that can make you have a successful relationship.

Brooke's poem analysis

The theme of both poems is emotional and physical pain. both authors have captured darkness and destruction in very few words. I don’t know who wrote these peoples but their writing styles are similar. In the poem about the pretty picture the author wrote “she paints a pretty picture, but the picture has a twist you see her paintbrush is her razor and her canvas is her wrist” The author used an alliteration and it really was put to good use. The quote plays over in your mind, its so beautiful but the subject matter is so dark. As you continue to read the poem about the pretty picture the author writes the same quote with a twist. “She paints a pretty picture but her picture has a twist, you see her mind was her razor and her heart was her wrist.”. The author takes it from physical pain being inflicted to emotional pain brought upon this girl. The quote makes you rethink the whole poem and it makes you question and think, what is this poem really about? Is it about suicide? Or is it all in her head?. The second poem is also about cutting and suicide but it’s more to the point and sweet. Even though it is shorter, the second one is still able to pull on your heartstrings and that is because of the subject matter. The second poem also speaks about the reactions of others. It ended beautify with “Their emotions tangle the room begins to swirl she was mommy’s angle and daddy’s little girl”. I think it was really interesting because when reading about suicide people don’t usually talk about how it affects other people

Jonathan's paragraph on Harrison Bergeron

 Observation of Vonnegut’s “Harrison Bergeron”

My initial reaction to Kurt Vonnegut’s dystopian short story “Harrison Bergeron,” was of thinking that it was positively bizarre, though from what I’ve read from his novel The Breakfast of Champions, I know that this sort of style is typical of him. It was a curious story particularly in the fact that he had used the utopian concept of everyone being equal to create a dystopian environment.
In a sense, no one is equal at all however, because that people’s handicaps are equal and opposite to their natural abilities and features, displayed very clearly in the case of the ballerina, whom the narrator observed “must have been extraordinarily beautiful, because the mask she wore was hideous.” The idea behind limiters and handicaps to make people equal is nonsense of course, as they don’t make anyone equal, they just make everyone only as good as the worst person on record. In other words, nobody can really do anything. And should anyone anywhere try to remove their handicaps, Handicapper General Diana Moon Glampers can illogically show up no matter where they are and kill anyone who might be better at anything than anyone else. It’s her responsibility to ensure the stupefyingly horrific advent of talent can’t contaminate the world once more.
Like I said, the story is bizarre. However, it’s also very effective for the same reason.

Avichai's thesis on Legend of the Sugar Girl

Abuse usually leads to addiction and the destruction of human life. When people get abused they turn to addiction to find some happiness in their lives. The sugar girl was abused by nuns and found salvation in candies but later on was unable to stop herself and became addicted to other substances. Because of the abuse she endured she lost self-control, her culture and her was unable to care for her child.

Zack's poetry assignment and thesis statement

In the poems “Quiet clean girls in Gingham Dresses” and “The Ice cream people” the inner conflict of what a man wants and what he ends up with becomes evident, especially in the case of Charles Bukowski. He seems to have something inside him that wants the “normal” life, to settle down. To achieve things in life like a quiet clean girl, or to be like the ice cream people, but he ends up with a prostitute and a bottle of wine; “I know that she exists, but where upon this earth as the whores keep finding me?” In the ice cream people he does go to the shop, but he does not feel apart, even though he enjoys them, he separates him from them with his writing; “the ice cream people make me feel good, inside and out.” Although Bukowski wants more out of life than clean girls and sundaes, it sums up his need for stability in life, a sense of normalcy.

Lamb To The Slaughter is a very strange, horrific story.  Mrs. Maloney, the main character, ends up killing her husband by brutally hitting him with a leg of lamb.  Mrs. Maloney does this because her husband said that he had to leave her, but the story does not say why he had to leave her, it simply skipped the lines. Brooke's Creative Writing legend assignment

Once upon a time there lived a girl, she was ordinary, she wasn’t a princess or a queen. She was a mystery, quiet, and lonely although people who cared constantly surrounded her. She was broken and lost and as do most girls, she fell in love. It was a love that touched the hearts of others and inspired greatness. She found her prince but sadly she was not his princess. It all started when her life was coming close to its end, on the beach at the end of the dock looking at the stars. The night ended with soaking wet with an innocent kiss in a locked bathroom. Feelings were never meant to get involved and they knew that. Their family and friends were like the Montague’s and the Capulet’s, she may as well have been Juliette and he was Romeo. Juliette fell in love with him quickly, to quick. She knew she had found love on a Friday night that faded into Saturday morning. They stood there silently watching the traffic lights change at three AM, the world was empty. It was just them and she thought to herself he is all I ever need. How perfect of a moment it was to rain, started ever so gently then it started to pour. The rain felt like little drops of heaven, she watched his blurred face walk to her and he said the words “kissed in the rain, check.”. We all know what comes next, he kissed her and it changed everything. They both decided to fall that night, they talked all day and all night. He made her carefree and she made him better. They learned how to grow with each other, she learned things about herself she needed to. They kept it a secret as best they could, but as you should know everyone has their opinions. She started to question things and they began to fight. It broke her heart every time he would say, you know it all has to come to an end some day. She knew that she had learned it over and over in her life, this girl was broken and as I said before her life was close to its end. There was water running and a blade, she said goodbye. Romeo couldn’t breath when he got the news. Two hours passed by that he thought she was dead. She was given four days to sit and think. She went away to live at friends. The night she got there she called him and there was no answer. He was furious with her because she said goodbye, he knew that she thought of him and she chose to leave him behind. That was the night they both said “I love you” it was sweet and innocent. She promised to never hurt him again; she said she would be okay. Juliette was sick though; she was surrounded and clouded by a familiar darkness. She was able to hide it for a while, they were doing well she was happy. She was doing so well, she found out what hope is. It was a few weeks before the darkness came back and it was done. He said, “you didn’t just disappoint me, you disappointed yourself.”. She was left behind and abandoned, but she picked herself up, she’s moving on. You see she knows she’s still not a princess or a queen, but he showed her she is far from ordinary. She knows she’s special; she’s special because she learned how to love. Hopeless and broken when she met him, dark and doubtful too. I sadly cannot say she still isn’t all of these things, but thankfully I can say she is doing much better now. He helped her and touched her heart like no other and she still misses him every moment of everyday. She is happy though, that he is where he wants to be and he escaped his darkness. Now they are just another beautiful yet tragic love that was lost. He’s with his princess, and one day she will get another prince. She never saw him coming and she will never be the same. They now live as strangers far apart, its sad but that’s how love works sometimes. Love is hard and it often ends with heartbreak, but it is always worth it. She learned to never give up a chance at love and not to be afraid of the end.

Ari's poetry/song lyrics assignment

Song Writing Intro Paragraph

In the two songs, N.W.A; Fuck The Police, and Jay-Z; 99 problems, there is a common theme that makes listeners aware of the importance of their message. This theme is racism.  In Fuck The Police they talk about how police mess around with them and arrest them because of their color, especially if they have money.  “A young nigga got it bad cause I'm brown
And not the other color so police think
They have the authority to kill a minority”
In Jay-Z’s song he talks about how the police harassed him and tried to search his car because he was a racial minority and he was young.  And I heard "Son do you know why I'm stopping you for?"
“Cause I'm young and I'm black and my hat's real low.”
The two songs have an intense and harsh way of expressing that message, but it has definitely worked by making people realize how racism makes other people feel.
In the two songs, you can tell that racism is brought up in a lot of different ways.  In fuck the police they have the police actually saying it, and in Jay-Z’s song it just has him saying that the police are racist.

The man and his dog ran under the bus shelter to get out of the rain. He turned to the woman who was sitting on an upside down bucket and said, “The impact of the rain is giving me a headache. The pain is absolutely relentless, I hope my Sycamore tree is doing okay in this weather.” The woman looked at him confused and said, “You seem pretty stressed, are you okay.” The man sighed and said, “Yeah its just that its hard traveling because my dog has monophobia and when I leave him alone he wrecks the whole house. I don’t know what to do”. The lady smiled and said, “ Well I just happen to be running a charity to help socially challenged pets,” she then pulled out a piece of paper, scribbled out her name and number and handed it to him. The man’s veracity ended up benefiting him in the end.

Adam's Legend assignment

Topic: Environment (Pollution-In Water)
Basic idea: story of people always hanging out by a lake, swimming from time to time, after a few years lake slowly becomes more polluted, becomes unswimmable. Entire area gets closed off due to pollution issues.

A few friends walk through a park and into a small nearby forest. After a few minutes of walking, the friends find themselves in a clearing with a crystal clear lake in the middle. “This place is amazing!” The easily excitable friend had pointed out. The friends had decided that they would come back to the lake the next day to have a swim in the beautiful lake. On the second day of walking through the park, some of the friend had seen that there were signs down the road of construction of a new waste processing plant.

Over the coming weeks and months, the friends had visited the lush forest day by day, coming to the lake, and enjoying many hours at the lake swimming and enjoying themselves. As time went on however, they had found they had noticed that as the processing plant continued its construction, the waters had begun to darken. “Anyone notice something changing about the water?” one of the more observant of the friends had noticed. The other friends hadn’t really paid attention to it and continued to enjoy themselves with what they currently had.

One day, while all the friends were walking over, the one that noticed more had seen something odd along the way to the lake. “Guys, do you remember seeing a construction sign around here recently?” They had not noticed, and over the past several weeks, the amount of signs had multiplied exponentially to the point that there were enough to surround the general area of the entire forest. A construction worker had shown up a few minutes later while the friends were inspecting the quality of the lake and how the area around it had quickly turned into a wasteland.

“Sorry kids, but this lake is closed from it being too unsafe to swim in. You know pollution from the plant and all.” The worker had said before he returned to welding two pipes together to attach to the overall set that led to the lake. From then on, the friends could no longer go to the lake to spend time together and hang out. Eventually the friends began to grow distant from one another and eventually forgot about each other in the long run. The plant continued to run for years and years to come and the lake grew toxic to the point that going near it was a health hazard. Because of this, the area was forced to be deforested in order to keep people safe. The friends, although distant, after many years, wished that they could return to the lake they had spent so much time and enjoyed so much there, if only they had noticed what was happening to the lake before they delved in.

Avichai's paragraph

The Great Dane is a very loyal and terrific dog. Most Great Danes have a very good disposition. They are also known to be fairly lackadaisical, which is a good trait because of the size of the dog. They can also be used as a therapeutic dog because they possess a sort of tranquility that allows people to calm themselves. People are surprised by the impact Great Danes have. People often have a tendency to think that great Danes are meant to be police dogs or attack dogs but actually they behave in exactly the opposite way. Some puppies actually have a tendency to even fear the rain before they get used to it. But this does not mean that whenever the owner is in trouble they will run away. As a result of their extreme loyalty to their master and family, the Great Dane can become a very fierce and relentless dog. They love their owner so much that when they are without their owners, it's as if they have Monophobia. For obvious reasons, it is very hard to take care of the dog when it comes to food and other needs. But because of their upside down personality many people that have owned or own a great Dane say that they had a very fruitful experience and would absolutely want to get another one.

Zack's paragraph assignment

A fellow named Greg lived in the basement of his mothers dingy little house on first street. He suffered from severe xenophobia, causing him to rarely leave his underground kingdom. He built his life down there, he had his best friend, Scruffy the dog. He was quite the lackadaisical fellow, sitting with Scruffy all day long watching soap operas, occasionally yelling at the television set. This is how Greg found his tranquility, his peace. Although this had an obvious impact on his mother, who suffered from severe monophobia. She would try and be with her only son, and he would go absolutely upside down whenever anyone came down stairs, disturbing Scruffy and him. Then one day his mother got tired of him, he was a charity case looking for a free ride, she couldn’t handle it anymore so she kicked him out in the rain on the curb, without Scruffy. He screams at her “Deodand.” “ That makes absolutely no sense in this moment” replies his mother. He ran away like an embarrassed 11 year old girl never too be seen again.
